About the Parish

St. Joseph’s Camperdown is a Catholic Church and parish community located just 4km outside Sydney’s central business district in the inner west suburb of Camperdown. Erected and established in 1889, it remains one of the oldest and historical Churches in Sydney today.

St. Joseph’s Camperdown attracts many parishioners and visitors each year and is recently under the pastoral care of the Order of the Ministers of the Infirm (Camillians) of the Philippine Province.

Mass and Eucharistic Adoration are available daily and the sacraments of baptism, marriage, reconciliation and anointing of the sick upon request.

There are many vibrant lay communities, prayer groups and religious orders that contribute to the initiatives of the parish including The Sisters of Mercy of Alma Michigan, Legion of Mary, Chinese Community, Servants of Mary, Sisters of the Immaculata and the Immaculata Community.

Current initiatives include our Eucharistic Adoration and the St. Joseph’s choir ministry for Saturday vigil and Sunday Masses.

The parish also has strong devotions to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Divine Mercy, St. Joseph and, recently, St. Camillus de Lellis.

We are situated along Missenden Road (off Parramatta Road) and facilities on site include a small parish hall, Servants of Mary religious store, Camperdown Child Care centre,  RSM convent, and presbytery. Within close proximity are the University of Sydney grounds, Sancta Sophia College, St. John’s College, the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse where the parish is heavily involved as part of its hospital ministry.

St. Joseph’s Camperdown is part of the City Deanery within the Archdiocese of Sydney.
